Mastercraft Prostar 190 1996 with Indmar Fuel Injection.
First time in 15 years the engine failed to start. Can anyone suggest things to check. When I turn the key I hear a pump sound but see no fuel in carb. Is there a fuse for the injection system? Battery has lots of power. Engine turns over well and ran fine yesterday with no issues! Can anyone suggest things to check.

Re: Indmar 350 Fuel Injection Problem

trace the fuel system, find out why you dont have fuel. what is your fuel pressure?

could be bad pump, could be bad filter, could be bad regulator, could be lack of spark.

if your fuel injected, you dont have a carb, you have a throttle body.

Thanks for the feedback - I removed the distributor cap and cleaned the contacts. Engine started right up!:)

how long has it been since you replaced cap, rotor, wires or plugs?

Re: Indmar 350 Fuel Injection Problem

Hi Scott,
Engine started and ran normal last week with old cap and rotor after cleaning.
I turned over the engine yesterday before replacing the new cap and rotor but no spark. (same condition as last week).

Bad news – I replaced the cap and rotor but still no spark.
I’m sure its spark related and not fuel because it did fire once.
What should I test now?

Re: Indmar 350 Fuel Injection Problem

Wires, plugs, coil

see if you have 12 volts to the coil. then see if you have a pulsing ground to the negative side of the coil when the engine is being cranked.

there are troubleshooting stickies at the tops of the forums.

Wires, plugs look fine. Replaced short Coil to Cap lead with plug lead to test for spark - still no spark.
Checked the voltage to coil. - 12V connected.
There are 4 connections to coil.
Red - 12v (drops to 9v when engine cranks)
Purple (thin) 9v when cranked
Purple (thick) 9v when cranked
White 9v when cranked.

Test leads - black was grounded then each wire was then tested while connected to coil.

Re: Indmar 350 Fuel Injection Problem

you have to test plug wires with an ohm meter - you cant tell from looking. spec should be about 2500 ohms per foot. so if your wire is 2' long, 5000 ohms max. however my suggestion is replace them if they are original - they are 16 years old.

how is your battery? not sure the voltage should drop that low when cranking.
