boat shifter

Hi everyone I have a 1974 safetymate tri hull with a AQ130/270 my question is how do you use the shifter with one handle and the little pull out button anything you can tell me on how to use it will be greatly appreciated.

if u are talking about what i think...when button is pulled out it will not shift into gear..u can rev the engine with the lever when the button is pulled out...when the button is pushed in, your throttle lever will engage the gear
