Hello, new guy here. Got a boat and motor from my uncle a couple of years ago and finally got around to trying to get 'er going. It's a 1963 Merc 500, 50 hp, serial 1605510, electric start. My uncle bought it with only 2 seasons on it and has always been stored indoors and very well maintained, old girl looks like new. Been parked about 12 years now though. So, now I have no spark. Just wondering about the things I can check before I have to take the mag out and check the points. Not scared of turning a wrench but electrical and ignition are not my strong points, especially points. Sorry if this has been asked before, I did search. Thanks for any info.
