I have a 1989 Evinrude 140 v4, I am getting a warning horn solid horn and engine will not go over 3000 rpm, sounds like its bouncing off the rev limiter. does that mean that the boat is in limp mode? I un plug the temp senseor on the strabord side head, tan wire and the warning horn goes away. I just replaced the water pump and there is water coming out the tail tail. I have checked the thermostats and one is stuck open and one closed, I am going to replace both of them today. Can the temp sensor be faulty and make the engine go into limp mode??? Please help

Yes a bad sensor can cause the engine to go into slow mode. I would replace the thermostats first and see if that corrects the problem. If the sensor still reports an overheat condition check the engine with a infrared thermometer to verify the alarm. If the engine is operating at the correct temp then you need to replace the sensor.
