If you have a vacuum advance yes it will, it will also affect you idle which will give you a different RPM and that will throw it off also

boats DO NOT have vacuum advances. if you have a vacuum leak, you have an air/fuel ratio issue, it will affect your performance.

Marine distributors do not have vacuum advances, and no, vacuum leaks will not change timing.

So any idea what cud throw my timing mark so far off and still let the motor run so good( all but at idle ) makes no sence to me

Could be a lot of reasons. Who knows. We have no idea what your working on.

I've read a lot of wat u told other people so I've checked timing chain and think its good found and fixed vac leak at the carb set the idle mix screws at 1.5 out and got the points at 18 . But can't set the timing cause it not even close to where it shud b. didn't want to bother any body with my stupidity but I've hit a wall
