I have a 1990 4.3L Mercruiser Alpha 1 Sterndrive serial # is 00405065 (184 R ) & 0D357324.
I'm getting ready to start this bellows project.I've removed the propeller. Now getting ready to remove the complete lower unit.I was told to place the throutle lever in full throutle position. In order for the drive shaft to pull out.Is this correct?Or is the drive shaft pinned?Reason why I ask is because,I hear the older sterndrives were pinned.I hate to start pulling the lower unit & drive shaft then, find pinned is why I'm asking?
Thanks!

I have no idea what you mean by pinned, never heard the expression before, and I have been a marine tech since the early 80's.

Here is the service manual, read sections 2A (removal, install, and adjust) as well as section 4A on changing the bellows.
Know what you are doing before you start working.
