Just looking over my new boat and see 5/2011 on an etec dbl checked purchase agreement yep 2012

I am so mad ,its a good thing their closed today.

-if he offers cash how much?
-if he offers to change it out, well I have 70 miles each way plus my time.

this is the second time this place has made an "Honest Mistake" as they told me last time.

And yes I will let everyone know the dealers name after this is resolved.

Thanks for any help

Not sure what brand an etec is, but merc stopped putting model years on stuff. Is there supposed to be some sort of diff between one made in 2011 and 2012?

If it makes any difference to ya my rig is a 1996 but all my power components are 1995 (engine&outdrive) pretty much the norm from what I hear

Re: Paid for 2012 got 2011

Looks like an etec is an evinrude? They appear to have the same policy on model year as merc
http://www.evinrude.com/en-CA/Owners-Center/FAQ/ModelYear

Consistent with current trends within the marine industry and feedback received from Evinrude consumers, dealers and OEM business partners, BRP has decided to eliminate model year designations for Evinrude outboard engines. This decision will provide consumers with current product upgrades earlier, without having to wait for the start of a model year. Consumers will only have to reference the model year of their boat package instead of having to track two model years (one for the boat and one for the engine). And our dealer and OEM partners will be able to manage their inventory levels more effectively to ensure the latest models are available for consumers.
5 - Date of ManufactureWhen a significant product change occurs (i.e. when a new model is introduced that replaces a prior version), the model designation will change as needed. By utilizing this process, models with the same code are physically identical, regardless of when they were built. To view the date of manufacture, reference the serial number label that is located on the engine (see example above). An authorized Evinrude dealer can help you identify the date of manufacture on the engine(s). This is also of particular importance if you are repowering a boat with dual or triple engine applications.

The engine in my 2012 boat hasn't even been made by Volvo Penta since like 2010. Who cares?

What if your engine had been built in December 2011? Would it be so much worse then one built in January 2012? New is new. Its new until its used.

Re: Paid for 2012 got 2011

4 Years ago I purchased a new etec from this dealer for 13k when I picked it up and went to pay the price was $14,500

As I stood there being told I was full of chit I noticed his note pad. I walked behind the counter grabbed it and there were his notes with the 13k.

Maybe this will shed some light on my skepticism.

What does the VIN card from the manufacturer say? The date on the engine isn't a very accurate way to determine what you have.

You got a 2012 Model Year there is nothing wrong. Same as buying a 2012 car in 2011 that was made in 2010.

Fool me once, shame on you.

Fool me twice, shame on me!

I'd consider this my own fault for dealing with people that had already tried to do me wrong in the past.

Going forward, an hour meter and service documentation is going to be your best protection of value. "Blue Book" type values are going to mean less and less in the years to come.

Warranties do not take effect until the E-tec is placed in service.

Re: Paid for 2012 got 2011

It is perfectly normal for a 2012 model to be manufactured in 2011. They are now making 2013 models.

You did not get ripped off, you are just suspicious. What does it say on the motor title?

It does not sound like you have a problem, you bought a 2012, that was manufactured in 2011, that is normal, and not an exception, I don't quite understand what you are Bi*ching about?

Re: Paid for 2012 got 2011

As long as it is new and the factory warranty starts the day you buy it you will be ok.I guess the main concern you have is that it is not different in any way as far as appearance from the 2012 model because that could affect the resale value.

Re: Paid for 2012 got 2011

answering your other Q's. i highly dought he offers anything but a confused look much like the one i had when i first read this. the rest of the comments confirmed what i expected. they began making the 2012 models in 2011 for sale at years open. they cannot produce a world market and ship them out between dec 31st and jan 1st. its a several month process hence they began sometime in 2011. obvioulsy in may or before. many of the 2011 models would have a 1210 tag.

i suspect most manufacturers produce 2012 models between mar april of the 2011 year and into the later parts of the year and begin in the early 2012 again with the 2013 years.

all the dealers try and rebate and move the 2011 models off the lot in the fall to make room for the next years models. that arrive late in the year and into the first of the year. models that are already on the line long before the 2012 year started. i suspect you indeed DO have a 2012 model that was produced in 2011. nothing new. now if it said 5-10 i would have had Q's if it was listed as 2012. you could ask him sure. i'll bet you hear a response simmilar to the last 5-6 comments here.

Re: Paid for 2012 got 2011

The last 2 numbers of the HIN are the model year and keep in mind model years don't run from January to January, I am with Bennington and we start our new model year the first week of August.

Brass tacks the engine is brand new and has the same warranty and is more than likely identicle to anything with made in 2012 and it is very common practice to have a new boat and engine be a year apart.

I have an 81 Sea Nymph with 1980 engine, it just how it is done and I believe it has to do with the lead time on engines, you can't just call BRP, Yamaha ect and say ''Send me 20 engine this week" they are ordered well in advance of the boat because of the long lead time.

Now if the hull number on the boat says 11 you have a legitimate complaint.

Re: Paid for 2012 got 2011

As others have said, it sounds like you got what was to be expected. I'm not sure the dealer owes anything. Unless you paid for an upgraded item and you received the older non upgraded one, I'd say forget the year stamped on the motor and enjoy the boat!
