Ran my 1977 Johnson 15hp on the Potomac today for several approximately 20 minute periods at full throttle until I suddenly lost power. I pressed the electric start- nothing, felt the flywheel- hot, hot, hot. After ~2 minutes I pressed the electric start- started right up.
What could have caused this?
My guess is running it for a long time and perhaps not enough [quick silver merc] oil in the gas. When mixing the gas last night I had about 2 tablespoons not enough oil for the 2.5 gallons I added. I also mixed a liter 50:1 of leftover gas from a trimmer. Total there were 6 gallons of gas.
Should I dispose of the gas or add some oil to it?

Lets see.....a blocked head could have caused it. A low water flow could have caused it. If the lack of oil caused it to "lose power" or in other words partially seize, I would think you have more problems than how much oil to add. Heck it might of overheated due to detonation from the "leftover gas from a trimmer". :)
