I am not sure where to start I want to give as much information as I can...

I am boat stupid but learning this is my first real boat. Mechanically I rely on my brother and the "honesty" of the boat yard (that is a whole bag of nuts there). I am not a mechanic but I am not dumb to it. I learn things quick and once I do them I normally never forget.

So I will try to make this short... Get in boat it starts perfectly! drive it for an hour then take it to the dock to put gas in it to beat the 4th of July rush.

Lead engine (I call it that because it has the alt and power steering on it and I have 2 engines) turns over really slow... then stops... no click like a car no nothing... try again... it tries really hard again dragging but then quits. My brother who is a car mechanic is with me and we start going over stuff.

Take plugs out... it turns over just fine... put just 2 plugs in... and it drags really slow again... I start checking wires and found that the boat yard who had the boat for weeks did not tighten up the battery cables on either side. They were finger tight and I am doubtful of a good connection.

the gage still shows the battery is hot (good) though... my brother said it almost sounds like it could have jumped time... or the starters just up and went bad but he does not think so. He is not familure with marine engines and because it seems when we look this up it is not attached to any automotive engine we can find it is hard to get info on it. Can anyone steer me in a direction that might help please?

tonight we are going to put a charger on the battery just in case and I will have my lap top to update this thread as we try different things. Thank you for any help you can give

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,... Yer Starter is, 'n works pretty much exactly like an automotive starter...

It needs to be in Good condition, 'n be fed 12 volts, with enough amperage to work...

From yer story, it sounds like the Starter, or the Battery are failing...

For More general Info on yer boat motor, have a look 'round up in the Adults Only section, at the top of this forum...

I will try the Battery when I get off work. We will drop a charger on it for a bit while we do a few other things and see if that helps. *Crosses Fingers*

Clean the ground wire connection at the engine and make sure the starter mounting bolts are tight.

I would suggest trying a known good battery. I just ran into a similar situation with my boat, starter cranked for a few seconds then died out, turned over fine with plugs removed. This was after replacing all the power and ground cables and cleaning and resecuring everything. Battery showed good per my guage and volt meter, but even with a jump pack, would not turn over for more than a few seconds before dying out. Replaced the battery with a new one and it cranked over perfectly. Definately check the battery it may show 12 volts but it may not have enough power to crank the motor over.

*update*

Ok it seems the engine only has issues turning over after it warms up... cold... she starts like a champ... once we have her out for a little bit and then cut it off... then try to restart it... it drag and fights to try to start and only cranks over a few times. but if it is cold then it starts right up. We have tested this sever times and the battery is good. It only happends after the engin in warm.

Could be your timing is off, or your starter could be dragging when it's warm.
