1982 3.0L OMC/ 400 SS drive Model# 302SPHROPA Serial# J 794887 (Another # bottom of tag scratched off?)
Cant find anything on the engine that says to use Unleaded fuel. Given the time the boat was sold Id say its a toss up on if it was or not? I know non-auto were the last to switch over andI'mm not 100% on if the lack of lead really does damage the valves soI'mm throwing this out to the vastknowledgee base here for advice on the matter.

Lead was phased out in the late 80's. Its cheap enough you can probably use for piece on mind. I dont think I would worry to much about it though.

The Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990 mandate the elimination of lead from all U.S. motor fuel by January 1, 1996. This
represents the final step in a gradual reduction of lead in gasoline since the early 1970s. "Regular" gasoline typically
contained approximately 4.0 grams of lead per gallon; average lead content was reduced to 0.5 gram/gallon in 1985, and
still further to 0.1 gram/gallon in 1986.
The above is from the epa. I know When I was filling up in Georgia in the middle 80's gas was still leaded. Farmers could get leaded until the 1990's. I know aircraft fuel still has lead in it.

Ayuh,... 'n boat motors have been bein' built to run on No lead gasoline since the Early 70s....

What's yer point,... Regular gasoline, at the pump, has been No lead, Low lead since BEFORE the OP's motor was built....

No it doesn't matter. My previous boat (1966 MarkTwain 150 Mercruiser) went until 2005 without even having the head off and it ran on unleaded fuel for most it's long life.

Don't worry about it. Use the money you'd spend on fuel additive snake oils for gasoline.
