If your motor is from 1950-1958 I think its like the Gale outboard I have. I bought the rotor for the water pump off ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/180911521844?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

Check out this to see what type of pump you have: http://www.fiberglassics.com/wiki/images/8/82/Galeservice002.pdf

Water will slobber out the slots about half way down when running. Yes, the exhaust blows it out. 24:1 is correct, althjough originally it was 16:1. Your choice, really. The motor was made by Gale Products, under a bunch of brand nanes. Spiegel Brooklure was one of them. All the same with different trim parts...The water pump is forward of the propeller. It is what we call a "wobbler pump". The rubber impeller, properly called a "rotor" is part number 550040, available from Evinrude dealers OR Brian Wilcox makes them http://www.chrystine.com/impellers/order.html

Grease leaking out of the lower unit contaminates the pump and makes the rotor swell up, then it doesn't work any more...

Let's not jump to conclusions about what model Burrboat has. Probably is Gale made, but we do not know that.

Give us the model number off of the transom clamp, Burrboat.

1959 5hp Deluxe, Gale model 5D16. Water blows out the exhaust relief hole on the backside, about half way down.

Water pump is in the bulge a few inches above the flat cavitation plate. Remove the lower unit at that bulge for access. But first you have to remove the powerhead to disconnect the shift rod. You will need a 303467 powerhead gasket, 303355 seal gasket, 303347 o-ring, in addition to whatever the pump needs. All those parts are the same as a 1955 Johnson 5.5hp
