You can't look at points and tell if they are good or not. Replace them, and the condenser. The are basic tuneup items.

Don, My father in law just reminded me that I'm getting no spark from the coil. Even if the points ar bad, should I not be able to turn on the ignition switch and get a spark from the coil?

Ayuh,... The Points, in the low voltage circuit, Trigger the Coil, in the Hi-voltage circuit...

If the Points don't go to ground, the coil will Never fire...

You want to get a boat going that has been sitting for years? to start.... You have points, automatic... a FULL tune up, cap, rotor, plugs, wires, points, condenser, fuel filters, and get rid of any gas over a year for sure. All these things before trying to start it. and that is just on the engine, not even getting to the drive maintenance.

Yes you are correct of course. Got the motor to fire but I have issues with fuel getting to the motor. Drained the tank and filled with 7 gallons of gas. Check the pump, diaphram appears OK and when you compress is to simulate the cam, it appears to creat pressure. I thought it was the fuel pump to figured I would get one tomorrow.
Replaced the impeller on the lower end but having a heck of a time re-assembling. I have the gear in gorward and check to make sure the tab on the upper end faces forward. Can not get it closer than 3/4" apart. I also have the upper end removed to add lube to the shaft. Shaft looks good. U-joints, look good. Any technique to re-assembly of upper and lower our drive units?
