Hi All,

My wife and I looked at 1993 Cobalt 222 tonight. The boat is in amazing shape and the hour meter shows 383. Seller is asking 11,000 with a trailer. I know Cobalt's are considered by many to be the top of the line bow-rider, but is 11K for a 20 year old boat crazy? I have a lake test set for tomorrow so if all goes well I will most likely buy it. I have seen other boats from 97 to 02 that were no where near in as good condition as this boat.

Would you survey it? I plan to have the engine and lower unit inspected. Anything else I should be on the look out for?

Thanks,
Reg

Can you direct us to the ad or pictures/detailed description of it?

Never mind, found it...

That is a very nice boat!

Assuming the driveline is in excellent condition, and there is no wood rot...I think $11k is fair for that vessel. Yes you should have it surveyed if you do not have the experience to perform a thorough inspection yourself. For that price, it better be near perfect. Make sure your test includes the use of a moister meter on the transom and floors.

I looks like a nice boat,

If you could get it for 9 or 10 it would be even better.

Good luck.

Yup, cobalt is one of the better brands of boats . . .

NADA - with the larger engine (7.4 vs 5.7) - is about $10K. The engine hours are low, and then there is the trailer . . . so $11K is OK, not crazy. Better brands of boats hold their value.

I would do a full compression test and cylinder leak test, because of the low hours may indicate periods of time that the engine was not run.

We pulled the trigger and we could not be more pleased with this boat. Had it out on Andice all week and it performed flawlessly. Only issues we need to address are the boarding ladder and oxidation on the gel coat.

As you probably already guessed the survey went well no major issues found (given an above average rating). Out-drive and engine checks all looked good as well. Anyone have any good tips/products for oxidation?
