I have a 5.7 merc and it does have some pitting on trim cylinders and housing. When I bought it it did not have an fin anode so I installed one now two seaons later its almost gone. Is it normal for this to happen or is there an issue with the grounding. etc. ?

Re: Corrosion concern

If your in the water a lot the zinc will be used up. It needs to be replaced. Might even consider installing one on the boat hull.

Re: Corrosion concern

are we doing salt water?

Anode will last about 6 months in salt.

Do you have anodes on the trim cylinders also?

Re: Corrosion concern

I have had the boat in fresh water for a month but that is all. and no there is no anodes on the trim cylinders. I think the damage was done before I purchased the boat. I will get the anodes for the trim as I do not want this to get worse. just wondering if the anodes were degrading to quickly but I guess not.
