Hello,

I have a 1982 merc mariner outboard 2 stroke. Took the boat out for the first time in years and ran great .... until i got about 1000 f out of the no wake zone .... almost dies/looses power have to wait about 10 secs and then it starts right back up . I dont know what the problem is maybe fuel ?. doubt the motor is starved for air ....

Thanks,

Christian Lara

Trouble could be several things, bad gas, air leak in the gas hose, bad fuel pump, bad switchbox, just th name a few. When it dose it it is probly something in the fuel or carbs, as it has setting for sometime. You are mixing oil at 50-1 arent you? You remmbered to open the vent screw on the tank cap? Not opening the vent will cause a vacum in the tank, and the pump will not be able to get any fuel. What size is the motor, and what is the sr# of it?

I have changed a power pack already.( just 1) the lines are in decent shape but could be a factor the gas is mixed 1 liter to every 6 gallons ... just what my local marine shop recommended.... checked the gaskets to the diaphragm... is there a actual fuel pump ??

All the motors I work on have a fuel pump. Where are you located at? The gas mixture is about right for a 50-1 mix. What is the HP of the motor.

Definitely change out ALL fuel hose. Bad hose will gunk up everything.

Make sure gas tank vent is working. Pump the bulb when your motor starts dying and see if it picks up...if it does you have a bad fuel pump.

Also, possible that something(incorrect float level, bad needle/seat) is restricting fuel into the carb bowls.....once fuel level catches up, your motor speeds up again.

it must be a fuel pump ..... where do i find my fuel pump ?

I'm new to this thread, but your oil mix is way out. You want a 50:1 mix. 6 US gal is equal to 22.2 liters. About 470 ml is good for oil. 1 liter is enough for 13 US gal. Check your fuel vent is open on your tank. Follow the fuel line from carb to fuel pump.
