I have a 1988 3cyl 80hp Mercury that gave me some trouble last weekend. We took the boat out and it ran great during the 25 min trip to our destination. I tied it up at the mooring and left it for about six hours. When we went to leave, it started right up as usual, but stalled about 1-2 minutes later. It would not start at all after that and when I tilted the motor up, lots of fuel poured out of the middle and lower carb throats ( I removed the cover to take a look )
It has since started twice only after an overnight rest, but stalls in a minute or so with the same results. I rebuilt the carbs 3 years ago and have not had any trouble until now. This was the second use of the season. The previous weeks trip went fine.
Thoughts on my stuck float(s) theory?
