It is time to rebuild my carb, but I can't figure out which kit to order (neither can my local marina).

It's either the 2 bbl Mercarb, or 4bbl Quadrajet.

You also have a 170, not a 470. If looking up under 470 it's hard to say what you would find.

Thanks Don. It is the 2 bbl. Spoke with iboats and they said they do not carry the kit. Trying Sierra next.

Thanks Guys. Sierra gave me a part number based on my engine serial number - 18-7097. Iboats has that one.

That sounds right, but even though your sn says it is correct if I were you I would check to make sure that you have the correct accelerator pump (straight shaft) before I ordered it. You are right near the changeover. Look closely at this: http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show...r=50&bdesc=CARBURETOR(MERCARB)+(165-170-3.7L) Your kit has the 9046. Want to make sure, lot of that stuff is non returnable. Good luck.

Thanks stonyloam. I am actually buying the kit and having the carb rebuilt, so I am no expert. The link says to check the pump cavity against the pictures. Dumb question, but does the carb need to come apart to check that?

I am not sure, but it is immediately obvious as soon as you take the top off the carb.
