Hi all, first time poster and need some assistance. Cranked up my motor this morning (90's model M40C Tohatsu) and noticed the water pump wasn't working. Shut it down and flushed it to no avail, still didn't work. The question I have is, how and where do I disconnect the shifting rod so I can slide the lower unit off to replace the impeller? There has to be something simple that I'm just not seeing when I'm looking at it.

Re: shifter rod removal on Tohatsu outboard

Disconnect the shift rod coupler (brass) by driving out the lower stainless roll pin,
