Hey Forum, I just finished, or partially finished my Volvo Penta 5.0 GL (2000 engine) upgrade. I have a new edelbrock 1409 carb waiting, but could not figure out how to adapt it. Any advice? I decided to go with the carb on my 5.0GL and break the motor in. I went to a 5.7L Vortec, so there are plenty of ponies waiting.

Has anybody done this swap? Don S, I am interested in your info, you seem to truly be the "Oracle of the sea." Sorry to franken motor my boat, but a 2000 did not seem to warrant the stock update price. The previous owner did not Winterize and soaked the engine with sea water.... salt sea water. Any Jet ideas for the holley as I break in? No need to change everything at once. I just want to get on the water and running first.

Thanks,
Penta Newbie

Re: 5.0 GL upgrade

You are going to need a cast iron 4bbl intake to use that carb. You don't want to even think about aluminum in salt water.
