1995 Johnson 40 HP carbs. filled with oil

Hello All. I noticed a pin hole in my oil line from the tank. Cut it out and replaced oil line on the barb fitting on the motor. Lots of oil had drained out during repair so I pumped the bulb (something I never do normally) until firm. Took it out on the weekend and it would not start. Took it to shore and when I pulled the carb. drain plug straight oil came out. I understand how this happened but I have to admit I never thought the oil would go past the VRO without mixing. Can anyone tell me the right thing to do after the oil line has been disconnected? Had I pumped the fuel first I imagined it would get straight gas (no oil) so that is why I pumped the oil first. My Bad but would like to know the correct procedure as I plan on replacing the oil line entirely soon. Thanks to all. Rick.

Rick, I did not think it would do that either. Maybe something is wrong with the OMS Pump? The correct procedure for bleeding the oil line is to pump the primer (line off the pump) until all air is out of the oil line. Now install it to the pump and pump the primer once more. Now run premix until you verify pump is working properly. I know I cannot pump oil past the OMS pump using the oil line primer bulb.

I certainly pumped a lot more than once after I purged the air out of the line. I'm not having any issues with the OMS other than I goofed up. Premix fuel for the first while is an excellent idea and I have that on board for my 4 HP trolling motor. Thanks, Rick.
