I am trying to get the u joint bellow on., I have the tool but I cant get the bellow to stay in the groove while I set the tool up. I have the bell housing all assembled & the u joint bellow attached tothe transom, the bellow sits in the grove on the left side(port) but as the bellow makes its way over to the right, it seems like the bellow is a 1/16" to thin & will not stay in the grove.
anyone have this problem? anone got any ideas?
I read another post that said not to use adhesive on the bellhousing side. is this right?
what can I do to get this thing to seat properly?

oh, couple more things, this is a gen II drive, on a 96 4.3 engine

also on the u joint bellow, were does the ground clip go? top or bottom? could/does it make a difference if the bellow is upside down?

There is no tool for putting the ujoint bellows on. Put it on the gimbal housing first, then install the bellhousing, then pull the drive into the groove of the bellhousing and install the SS sleeve.

the tool i am talking about is the sleeve tool. I cant get hte bellow to stay in place on the bell housing. can I use bellow adhesive glue to keep it in place while I get the sleeve ready on the tool?
is it possible I have the bellw upside down? is there a top & bottom to this bellow

theres a video on you tube to give you a run through, however the guy states that if you have a pattern bellow you may have to put a small chamfer around the inside of the bellow so the stainless ring can be eased into the bellow.the tool can then be fitted to push the ring home.some quick desolving lube is regularly used which dries rapidly but stays slippery long enough to do the job.about a 13 minute video you can view to see if that will make it any easier.
power tune is the liquid and heres the vid; www.youtube.com/watch?v=PibMyp8aKbY

I saw this video last week, thanks, I did nto get anything more out of it by rewatching it, which i did. only difference is that I have the hinge pins attached, maybe I will pull them in the AM. but I still feel that the groove is not set properly & is not sitting in the bell housing flange correctly

I really need to know if the bellow has a top & bottom to it or does it not matter. maybe if this is the issue, I have it backwards.

There is a top and bottom,it say's it right on the flange of the bellow's,usually on the end that attaches to the transom.good luck!

thank you grub, I had the bellow sideways, within 2 hrs i had the bellhousing off & on, & ballow in place. its a good thing I had to do this, it turned out that the exhaust bellow clamp was not on the bellow completely & surely would have come off.
once the bellow was in right, the sleeve went right in.
