trouble with trim motor. need help!

I have a 40hp nissan outboard. When i click the trim button it just clicks. A guy told me i needed a brand new one but i have heard you can hotwire or something to get it going. Any help would be appreciated.

It is a nissan 40hp, model nsd40d. Serial is 43156

You can jump across the the two poles on each of the solenoids to see if they are bad.
