I recently acquired a Japanese made Mariner outboard. The numbers on the tag are 40 BM 676B-S-00154. Could anyone tell me the gas oil/gas ratio and the year? I appreciate the help.

Re: 40hp Mariner oil/gas ratio

Well sir, as I recall, 50:1, pint to 6 gallons has been the industry standard since the 60's or 70's. Brunswick hasn't had the Mariner badge maybe 25 years. Other than OMC dabbling with 100:1 for awhile which I am told they promptly dropped, due to malfunctions, the standard has not changed.

Thank you Mark. Any idea on how I may be able to identify the motor better with the serial number?

Post it as a new thread asking that question and furnishing the number. If the guys read it that know the answer they should respond; usually do.
