I have 1979 Mercury Thunderbolt 70hp(just bought it) I am assuming the MerControl is the same age. The throttle has to go all the way forward to get up to top speed. Is there a way to adjust the tension? Is that what the knob on the front is for? What is the proper tension for the throttle? mercontrol.jpg

I don't know of any knob or way to set friction on that control. There is a 3 prong connector on the MerControl which is used to connect the tachometer.

My controls have the tensioning knob I think its broke though. I have the same problem with mine. You have to push real hard to get it to get up on plane then very little movement to adjust rpms right? Im going to change throttle cables this week and see if there is any difference.
