I need a new prop for my 1974 Starcraft Chieftain, aluminum 22' hull with 165HP I6 Merc I/O MC-1 Drive. Weight is about 2400lbs. I think. Number on the current prop is 16-440-a45. As close as I can tell it measures about 7 1/2-8" from hub to tip of the blade, and I think it's a 16 pitch, and it's black aluminum. I do not know WOT RPM, as it will over-rev long before there. I get on plane very quickly, but am definitely lacking top end. Think a better prop would be a 19 pitch?
So looking for the correct diameter and pitch prop, not picky on brand. On a budget.
Also, so far I'm making about 25 knots max, but that's limited to the engine rpm. Think it has plenty of power left and that the 16 pitch is not enough for the boat. The reason I am replacing it is I hit a rock...
