Hi. New poster here.

I found a 1984 Bayliner 2070 Explorer that appears in great shape.

The Volvo engine has been replaced with a 350 Chevy.

What are the opinions on a change like this swap? Any problems? Pro's and Con's please.

Has 400 hrs on Chevy.

Thanks.

Volvo used chevy engines also. Just make sure all the accessories are marine grade and that the block has brass freeze plugs. If it has automotive carb, alternator, fuel pump ..... then I would pass. If you can't tell the difference find someone that can to look at it.

The 5.7 Volvo is and has been a 350 cubic inch Chevy in marine trim unless someone has replaced the original with an auto engine. The truck engine is as close to marine as you can get minus the marine stuff. Even if they did, a 5.7/350 Volvo, Mercruiser. or OMC are all 350 or 305 Chevy engines. Going way back you will find 283's and 327's.

That boat probably did come with a Volvo engine. A 4cyl . . . What they are saying about 350s and Volvo is true, but I believe that boat had one of the Volvo 4 bangers which was a Volvo block.

If the drive was not replaced then the ratio is wrong for the V8.

Suppose OH 1 year ago with gear change.

3800 rpm's? = 28 mph.

i think I remembered that right.
