Sorry for repeating the same question alot of poster have already asked. When reading thru older posts, I have a very similar issue with my 140HP but i can temporarily "fix" it when pushing in the choke.
My 85 V4 140HP fires right up. Great spark (new coils), great compression (had all 4 holes checked). the motor idels perferctly but when I try to get on plane, every time, the motor boggs down, and almost cuts out. I can keep it from dying by pulling back on the throttle. When it does not die, it runs bogged down and feels like I'm pulling a 500 pound anchor.. When I push the choke in, HANG ON! The motor comes to life and we take off like we were shot from a gun. This joyfullness only last for about 30 to 40 seconds most of the time then it boggs down again.. Maybe one of every 5 times I do the choke trick, it will stay running at the higher speed (appx 4000 RPM) at WOT and even then It's not running at peak performance. I used to fish out of the boat before I bought it from a buddy so I know what it used to run like. Oh, when it boggs out, it drinks the fuel really, really bad. I can go thru 1/2 tank of fuel in 30 minutes, trying to get it running right.
I have chased the fuel lines for leaks and found none. I love the boat/motor but it's super frustrating.
Has anyone had this problem and coudl temp fix it with the choke? What did you do to fix your problem?
Thank you for any information.
Terry
