4 beeps every two minutes and engine dying

1. Engine year, make, type, Full Model number, or a serial number if possible.
Mercury Sportjet 175hp V6
Model # 1-175J01UD
Year -2003

2. Prop type
Inboard/Impeller jet engine, no outer propeller

3. EXACTLY what it's doing wrong
When tooling around at 1/3 to 1/2 throttle, the dash outputs 4 beeps in a row every two minutes exactly. When we started going 3/4 throttle, about 30 seconds passed and the engine died (RPM dropped over the course of 2 seconds or so, then the engine completely turned off). The engine would start up again after this, but we didn't try going high throttle again.

The oil tank is filled to the brim, because that's what was wrong last time the beeps happened (a few years back), so we think it might be something to do with the fuel injection. No idea though.

Any help is appreciated, and I'll add as many details as I can.

EDIT: Sorry for the bad title, I had trouble posting and it ended up being an old title. If it could be changed to '4 beeps every two minutes and engine dying' that would be excellent. Also getting rid of the angry face and instead putting a question mark would probably be better.

Also, I can't edit anything in the first post either, so I'm not sure what's up.

Fixed your title, and moved the thread to the Merc outboard forum. The motor is a 2 stroke outboard, not a true IO.

I was not aware that there were 6-cylinder two strokes. It's an outboard even though the entire engine assembly is inside the confines of the boat, as well as the impeller?

Was browsing through some older threads and found this:

model, 4 beeps every two minutes means low oil. The alarm system only senses that the oil is low, so you could have a failed sensor or the float in the tank is bad and sounding a false alarm. Start by performing and ohms test on the sensor per the service manual, if the sensor passes the test, the float in the tank is either sunk or the magnet in the float fell out.

Looking in the service manual I have, I'll try an ohms test as suggested by that post, I'm just worried about the shutdown of the engine during operation. Is that directly connected to the oil level system (and malfunctioning due to the sensor's malfunction), or could it be a different issue?

Just has a similar experience. 4 beeps followed by a continuous beep.

This was an oil alarm followed by an overheating signal. This lead to loss of power. The float switch in the small oil reservoir had failed. To check this out remove the two leads from the oil tank transmitter and short the two leads leads together from the mcp unit. The beeps will stop if it is a float problem.

I tried to post earlier, but stuff's messing up (posting). Anywho, I checked the oil sensor and it's fine. Ohmeter read no continuity when the float was up, and continuity when the float was down.
