Pontoon Boat Trailer Sizing

We just purchased a 20 foot pontoon boat - deck size is 20 foot (actually 19.6), and pontoons are 22 foot. Can we use a double axel crank style 20 foot trailer? We tried it with a 24 foot trailer and it sat a couple feet from the bumpers, so it didn't seem like a good fit.

Does anyone have this set up?

Any help is appreciated!

Re: Pontoon Boat Trailer Sizing

If the trailer has >19.6 feet of length for the pontoon to rest on, then you are good to go. Generally with a pontoon trailer, its fine to oversize the trailer. You can always position a stop to keep the tongue weight within reason. (I've loaded a 20 ft pontoon on a 26 scissor trailer before)

My only advice is understand the type types of pontoon trailers. Scissor trailers are nice for short tows, but I wouldn't recommend them if you often tow more than a couple miles.
