I am experiencing the following situation. When engine runs over 3,000 rpm goes into " protection mode" after few minutes.
There is no aubible alarm. Water temperature looks normal and oil pressure (from gauge) looks OK
After few minutes of protection mode the engine goes back to normal function.
If i stay below 3,000 rpm engine has no problem.....
Any suggestion?

Does the audible alarm sound when you first turn the key on? It should.
Get the engine hooked up to a diagnostic computer and find out what is putting it into protection mode.

Re: Vp 5.7. Gxi -E protection mode -no alarm

Purchased Rinda Diacom software and scanned the engine. The only trouble code found was "Engine shut down telltale".
Cleared the code and run the engine. Rescanned and no error code are on now.
Took the boat for a test ride and once i reached 3,000 rpm the stb engine has the same behavior.
Looks like it looses power.I believe looks like "protection mode" but apparently is not...
Once I go back to neutral and push the throttle looks like it is OK but once reaches the 3,000 rpm the cycle repeats.
No problem below 3,000 rpm.
Looking at the software parameter recording engine temp./ oil min press./ risers temp are OK.
No error codes on the engine...
I recorder the full engine parameters during the ride but I need some help....
Thank You in advance for you rhelp

You are probably not going into protection mode. That should happen around 2500 rpm, not 3000. You will need to read the scans during the engine slowdown to find out why. It's obviously not being recognized as a fault. One of the sensors is sending false information to the ecm. Finding those can be a real pain at times, especially if your not really familiar with the system.

might want to check fuel pressure @ 3000 rpm under load.

Re: Vp 5.7. Gxi -E protection mode -no alarm

Hello, I am away from the boat but I analyzed the parameter records I took during the last ride.
I compared the records between 3 different times.
The first two (3,343 & 3,366 RPM) records were taken during normal engine functioning while the third one ( 3,326 RPM) at the occurrence of the problem. So my numbers - see below - shows the difference between the engine running OK and what happens during when I loose power.
Below my findings:
- ECT Temp looks almost constant (154.4 to 155.8 F)
- Mainfold air temperature looks almost constant (109.9 - 107.2 F
- Baro derived from MAP shows a variation from 28.8 to 29.4 inHg
The following parameters shows more variation
- Maifold absolute pressure (from 24.3 to 29.3 inHg)
- MAP sensor voltage (from3.35/3.37 to 4.04 V)
- Injector Bank A pulse width (from 6.0 to 7.9 ms)
- Injector Bank B pulse width (see above)
- IAC position (from 68 to 94)
- IAC throttle follower (from 38 to 64)
- Throttle position (from 41 to 99.6 %)
- Throttle sensor voltage (from 2.16 to 4.41 V)
In addition
- Spark Advance goes from 32.6 to 28 Deg
- Cam retard from 47.66 to 48.01 Deg

Now I need some help interpreting the data..... Any suggestion will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance for all the help.
