I have a 1975 Johnson 40 hp Model # 40EL-75C that will not go forward beyond the idle speed. It seems to shift fine but it will only go idle speed. When you give it gas it just runs the rpm's up. It ran fine until my last outing a few weeks back when it suddenly jumped out of gear and since then its been nothing but a mystery. I have had the lower unit taken apart twice and was told by 2 people everything looks awesome. (Clutch dog, gears, etc etc.) On top of that there has been numerous adjustments made to the shift rods & cables. Can someone please shed some light on this for me?
