hi all! im new to the forum. been having a hard time keeping the boat running after rebuilding the carburator. took the tanks out and cleaned them out. had about 7 years worth of crap built up inside of them. replaced the fuel lines and fuel pump. hooked a 5 gallon gas can up to the fuel pump to test it first before filling up the two tanks in the boat. engine is hard to start but when it does start it idles rough and when i throttle up it dies after about 10-15 seconds. any ideas or suggestions would be graetly appreciated.

Re: help!!!!! boat hard to start after carb rebuild

Does that inline 6 have a rochester? And when rebuilding the carb did u soak it in cleaner and blow out all the passages with compressed air? if not your chances of success dropped drastically a carb rebuild is a 50/50 shot in the 1st place and if the above mentioned was not done it is most likely 80/20 or less. You could have debri still plugging the works up and or floating around in there. There could be other variables did you do a complete tune up plugs, wires, cap, point and or rotor and as well as checking the timming and dwell if applies. Give up the rest of you info year, make and model.
