Hello all, its my first topic in this site, and its pleasure for me to become a part of your comunity

From several years me and my family have boats, and now we want to sell them and buy another one.
We found a very nice Bayliner Capri 1991 with inboard engine -280 hp V8.My question is-is it possible that this boat has an original inboard engine with 280 hp?Since it is 1991 I assume that it has Mercruiser engine, may be 5.0 or 5.7 (I think there is no 1991 capri with otiginal volvo engine). I did some research, and thats why I am worried.I could not find a capri from 1991 with such an engine, even in the catalogs of Iboats.
So do you know something about it?
P.s. Excuse me if I put my question in the wrong section .

Post the engines serial number. Should be a metal tag just above and slightly aft of the starter. I'm pretty sure it's a Mercruiser being it's from 91, What drive is it?

But if I take this number from the owner, how can I use it?
Thanks

LOgic, people make up horsepower numbers all the time. It's probably a 260, that he put chrome valves covers on, so that must have given him 20 additional horse. ;)

You don't want that home built boat. It's probably a death trap.

A cheaply built Bayliner from an era where they had fit/finish/quality issues, a motor from a company that hasn't been in the marine business in decades, plus the motor has been out of production for who knows how long? Why jump into that fray, when there are boats out there with engine/drives that are still in production? That's as brief as I can be.
