power trim wont go down

have 1986 140 mercruiser 4 cyl. alpha one outdrive i just got boat and with help from other on this site got outdrive off just upper gear and lower foot. i cant get outdrive down. it was in trailer mode when i bought it. when i push bow down it only clicks.. nothing happens when i push bow up. when i push trailer swith it clicks also. i have taken all connections off pump cleaned and reassembled it. took the two black wires from engine jumped them and still same. any help would be great.

Same issue last fall, you might want to check the connections for corrosion. Also consider changing the pump fluid...

Just had the same issue. Had to replace the down solenoid. Take a piece of wire and jump from the battery to the power on your down solenoid (My wire was green/white stripe). If it goes down then its the solenoid.

thanks i did jump but motor didnt turn on. i cant locate 20 amp fuse. that is suppose to b there ill try removing and cleaning pump

If the 20 A fuse was bad, up wouldn't work. Same with the motor. If it works one way, it should work the other.
Have you even looked at the troubleshooting chart I posted above ?

thanks don for diagram i must b missing some connection or pump may b dead. ill try breaking down pump motor and cleaning it before i buy new one cuz they r expensive. ill replace solenoids first they r reasonable priced.

i went all thru diagram u sent and it all points to replacing pump...

i took pump apart cleaned brushes and contacts then replaced both solenoids because they were both cracked(didnt see it til i got it out) will be reinstalling this weekend. thank you for all the help ill post my results

ok i rebuilt trim pump and proceeded to test it one cylinder goes up dow no problem the starboard side doesnt move at all its still all the way out and wont budge i took it off and tried pressing piston in but to no avail.. i think when they put it in trailer mode it went to extreme limit and is now stuck there. any suggestions how to get it free...

i took piston apart and put it in bench vise took cap off that piston goes thru put alot of wd 40 on it solwly i was able to turn piston rod in the cap. lastly i put it back together and applied heat to the casing holding piston and cap careful not to use to much and melt orings it worked like a charm i took very fine emery cloth and removed burrs on piston shaft where it was frozen. i replaced orings just becuz it was apart. put it back on boat and both pump and both trim pistons work smoothly... thanks for all the help.
