Back in the day I had a job and routinely paid others to fix my boat, now i need to learn how to fix my own boat. I have a Mariner 150, 2 stroke old style with no oil injection, an alarm went off at WOT, i powered down and added some oil, (stupid) the plugs immediately fouled and i was towed in, (expensive) i assume i should start with replacement of the impeller ?? does this motor also have any type of water pump ? Am i even on the right track ? any comments would be helpful, but be gentle.

That motor is a V6 with an impeller, two thermostats and a poppit valve. Obviously start with replacing the impeller, wearplate and two gaskets. I recommend a service manual, if you plan to do the work yourself. You might inspect the thermostats and poppit valve.
