i pullled the drive apart to replace the impeller. there isa plastic sleeve that sits around the water intlet tube. this is in theupper section & above the sleeve that connects the waterpump housing to the tube. the sleeve is loose & does nothing from what I can tell
I am trying to add photos, lets see if it works.\

next thing is that there is no water pump face seal that they talk about. do I need this?

also, the manual talks about an aluminum dam that i cant figure out what they are talking about

Joining Drive Shaft Housing/Gear Housing
1. Lubricate the end of the water tube (in the drive shaft housing) and the splines of the
drive shaft with Quicksilver 2-4-C Marine Lubricant with Teflon.
NOTE: The aluminum dam has been changed to a rubber filler plug. If the aluminum water
pump dam in the gear housing has become corroded or damaged, it can be replaced with
the rubber filler plug.
IMPORTANT: Ensure that the drain hole of the aluminum water pump dam is not
clogged with any foreign material as damage may occur if it is.

The plastic tube is there as a guide for the water tube. It is also a tell tale if the unit is ever run with no water. It will melt and deform.

So what shape should it be in because it looks like it is not factory shape
Any thought on the face seal? Do I have to have this? Will it cause an over hEat condition?

That guide shouldn't be there. The water tube is installed in the upper as shown below, and that guide tube should be on the pump.

Yes, you need the face seal, and you need to install it with the face seal tool.

That was perfect a picture is worth 1000 posts
The piece I have is apparently the guide
Mine is warped/melted so I need that piece too I guess, if I can get the pump tube on w/out the guide do I HAVE to have it? Will it effect the cooling properties?
Thanks for the photos
