thought this may be the section to post this.

have 2 props for my 60 hp johnson. Both over the years both have got a banged up and brought to a prop repair "specialist " over here. Seeing as I didn't know any better I thought "wow this guy's great , he fixed my props like they were brand new!"

2 weeks ago I had a bit of an electrical issue and came across a motor a year younger with engine damage for very cheap money . I bought it, now I have all replacement electrical parts, spare gearbox etc.
AlSO though, I have a prop that was always used in deep water and never dinged. It's the exact size and make as either of my other 2 fixed up ones BUT .....

it's moves my boat nearly 6 mph faster !!and the overall performance is miles apart, hell it even trims better. Comparing the 3 you can see a complete difference .. so I guess my beef is with the guy who claims to be a prop man. Over here we don't have your type of prop shops and the experience that goes with it.

I suppose I'm really jealous that you guys in the states can bring a prop off to good shops knowing that it'll come back exactly like it came out of the box, I on the other hand will have to make sure I take good care of this one as if I ding it , some guy will charge me a fortune just to make it look nearly like it should.

rant over,
I'm going boating and doing it faster!!

Re: My bad prop repair experience.

There are a lot of prop characteristics that may just be different. You say the make is the same, but are you sure? How can you tell? The pitch may be stamped, but is the rake the same? Cup? Diameter? If you are SURE that all of that is the same, then there is a chance that he didn't get the prop right. Many guys on here will talk about problems with hub slippage on rebuilt props, and simply just will not try it. Did you check your performance at cruising speeds to see if it matched or was off? How do the RPMs look?

same prop no.

Other 2 props are pretty much the same across all the ranges, other one brought rpm down 300 or so at wot and cruising speed is higher than refurb ones ,
