Re: Alternator

can you use a car alernator in place of a marine alternator? Is there a differents?

No... Yes...

Marine alternators have spark shielding that car alternators don't have...
This help prevent the 'BOOM' factor... :D :D

Re: Alternator

Look for SAE J1171 certification on alternators, starters, etc. Fuel fumes are heavier than air, so they can collect in the engine compartment to the point where they reach explosive levels. These components in their marine varieties are design not create sparks that could ignite the fumes.

Also look into engine compartment ventilation, blowers, etc as those are intended to purge the fumes that may build up in the engine compartment.

Me . . . about 3-4 years ago . . .

It still works . The alternators that they sell are usually from "Arrowhead Electrical Products"
