I was wondering what you guys thought of Tohatsu outboards. Specifically 9.8 hp for a 14' tinny.

Tohatsu manufactures excellent reliable, well priced engines for Mercury, Nissan, Evinrude up to 30 HP, 4 strokes. The 9.8 it's one of it's light champs, stands alone in it's class. That 14" footer should handle well a 25 HP engine. How many passengers do you plan to take along ? Or it's just for goofin around with few mates ?

Thanks Sea Rider. I usually fish by myself or one other, so it's not a lot of weight. My current out board is 1997 9.9 Force which runs really well but eventually I will have to move to the low emission 4 stroke here in Califonia.

Tohatsu 9.8 HP, 4 strokes are 210 CC compared to around 250 CC for the 2 strokes 9.9. Definitely will do a good transport job. The next 4 strokes is a 15 HP, probably 350 CC is too much for your needs and pricey.
