Help me on replace engine V6 4.3L 1992

Hi all, need help on replace my boat engine, long story short :facepalm:, I have a 1992 V6 4.3L with SN number 0D723276 which has cracked block, and I decide to replace it. I found a engine 1990 V6 4.3LX Vortec with SN OC853214, can I just purchase it and replace the crack one? is that just a straight replace? what else I need to change? :confused:

Ummm, that first serial number is a 1992 3.0litre engine!!! And the second serial number is for a 1989 Alpha One drive (not even an engine!!!)...

0D723276 is a 4.3L for sure, it is on my boat and I am sure about that:) see below:

MerCruiser 4.3LX (GEN II) (4 BBL.) GM 262 V-6 1992-1993 0D714370 THRU 0F001219

Second one is 205/4.3LX (4BBL.) GM V-6 0B527955 THRU 0D714369

Well, for sure, when I put your serial numbers in the MERCRUISER parts catalog I get these results....

What you have is a range of serial numbers that covers everything produced that year....

Thanks for the information, here is a picture from my boat. something does not make sense:confused:

I talked with the seller and the SN is OC855331, sorry about that.

I think you might have the same problem as me... Dyslexia... The number you gave was 0D723276, the number on that engine cover is 0D723726, and that comes up as a 4.3L (1992). 0C855331 is now coming up as a 1990 4.3L.

The biggest issue to address is that the 1992 engine is in front of a Gen II drive and the 1990 engine is in front of an Alpha One (Gen I if you like). You may also find that the 1990 engine MIGHT be without a balance shaft, in which case you will need to put fluid mounts in...

my apology!!! sorry for wasting your time.

What problem I will run into put Gen II outdrive to 1990 Alpha one engine? the seller told me it will just work fine, he was not tell me the truth, or just like me did not know a lot about it. Thanks

Ayuh,... There may, or may not be issues with,....
The fuel pump,...
The T-stat housing,....

Possibly more, but nothing that can't be overcome, especially if ya got both motors, fully dressed, side by side...

Thanks for the information, yes, both mother are fully dressed include mount.
