Well, I've come up with 2 different numbers, neither of which are the one you have... Go figure..

Here's how I did it...

Merc list 2 starters for those engines, depending on the Delco number on the starter itself.

50-79823A1 if the Delco number is #1109489,
50-79822A2 if the Delco number is #1109488.
Both of these cross to Arco 30119 -> http://www.iboats.com/OMC-Sterndriv...7610916--session_id.174002264--view_id.175117

If you use the Merc look up for either of those numbers they supersede to 50-806965A4, which crosses to Sierra #18-5919

I can also see how you came up with the number you have... You look up the Sierra application chart....

Which one's right? Your guess is as good as mine...

Chris......

Re: 1979 Mercruiser 898 starter

well the number on my old starter is 1107317. couldnt match it up much.
I too came up with that 5919 p/n as well. the difference between the 5919 & 5911 is permanent magnet which I dont know wat the difference is thats why I didnt think or know if 5919 will work or not. so sounds like 5919 should work as well?

permanent magnet reduction geared starters are the best if you have the opportunity to get one that would be a good option

O ok. thanks for the help. the price isnt much difference so I would rather get the 5919. I jus hope I dont run into any installation problems.
