Thought I had it figured out with bad timing, but have engine out of boat changing, ringer and starter, pulled all plugs and starboard #4 ,6, 8 cylinders water on plugs, dripping out of #8. Have new manifolds and risers. Can't turn engine easy with plugs out. How much torc is needed to turn engine over by hand?
Noticed flapper valve in exhaust half there on stbd side-same as #4,6,8.

Slowing down quickly can cause water to migrate up into head with only half flapper I guess? Any thoughts?

Boat ran great for the test before purchase, even had a survey guy with me. DARN!!

Ayuh,... Or a failed riser gasket is 'bout the only way for it to happen...

Failed intake, or cracked head are kinda far fetched...

Thanks for your repy. Installed new ring gear, and new starter, had all plugs out and jumped starter. Engine turned over no problem, shooting water out of all stbd holes-nothing from port head. injected some 10/30w oil into cylinders and cycled engine over and over. Clean of water now, reinstalled plugs-turned over no problem. Might have won this battle. Will change out all filters, oil, plugs, wires, cap, install brand new manifolds, gaskets and new risers, have purchased new flapper valves for exhaust and will install, and will put engine back in boat. Once engine is back in boat I will take the boat to a shop to align engine.
I guess before I do all this I should take a compression reading from all cylinders to know where the values are.

I haven't worked gas engines for a while but should the throttle be wide open to do compression test?
Any thing else I should be looking for/doing whilst engine is out of boat?

Thanks for your help...
