i am new boater and first time poster so please be gently with me...lol. purchased a small(20 ft) open bow boat a couple months ago for dragging the kids around on tubes, skis, etc. it has a 1993 or maybe 1994 johnson gt 150 outboard(2 stroke v-6).had it out maybe 15 hours total and last trip we took it seemed to have a "stutter" upon first acceleration pulling the tube. it starts fine using the "fast idle" and after warming up goes into gear and idle speed seems fine. when you start to take off after letting it warm up( with or without the tuber) it seems to bog down and if you don't let off the throttle and kind of "feather it" for a minute it will stall out. once you get past that point it will accelerate and decelerate just fine until i stop, and have to start again. it DOES NOT have a tach so i cant say what rpm range it is happening at. i replaced the plugs and the all looked even and ok, i also replaced the fuel filter. while doing that i found 2 small slices in the fuel line where the lid of the outboard latches that went to the white cloth so i replaced it. any more ideas anyone can give me to check before my test run tomorrow morning??

I had a similar problem with my 1986 Johnson 150. It would start and run just fine. However, occasionally on throttle up it would just bog down or lose power. I would simply throttle back and then it would throttle up just fine. Again, this did not happen everytime, it was on occasion or intrmittant. I took it in for service and needed a new powerpack. Now don't take this for gospel, it would be best to get a few opinions from thje experts on the forum or take it in for service and see what they come up with as a root cause. Good luck.

Try pushing in your ign key switch when this happens and see if it improves. Just a few quick jabs that is.

OK, i tried pushing in the switch(choke i assume it is). when it would start to bog done i would quickly press it in twice and it almost instantly cleared right up and took off everytime??... so what does this tell me?? to much fuel? or not enough air?? what should my next step to try be??

The model number on the motor tells me it's actually a 1990

If when you push in the choke it "catches" then it's telling you it's starving for fuel when you accelerate. Time to clean those carbs and verify you don't have any issues in your fuel lines, all the way from your carbs back to the tank itself.
