I just spent a bunch a time looking thru mercurys special tool catalog, I need a driveshaft retainer nut remover for a 60 hp 2 stroke merc, non bigfoot gearcase, 1994 Model serial # is no longer readable, and not on core plug in block. This gearcase doesn t use a threaded carrier nut, Its a 2 bolt carrier. Serial Group OD000750 - OG290584.
The catalog doesnt show the V-6 tool as compatable.
Any Help is appreciated

Re: Mercury Tools

Simple gearcase to disassemble...remove carrier bolts and carrier, remove prop shaft assembly, use a 3/8 drive socket (5/8 if I remember) and pipe wrench to remove pinion nut. Depending on what your servicing this can be a easy or B***H unit to service as pinion height and backlash set up is critical...

Went to the dealership n grabbed a V-6 driveshaft retaining nut tool, It fit, As usuall mercury has their head up their arrss. Hate using their literature along with their special tool guide. Only to be MISINFORMED.
Fix it in the field thats there motto.
As long as they have customers, They have field testers.
Love breaking my TAM s chops at the shows. Lol.

If your talking about the upper bearing tool it will work but if you mean the driveshaft holding tool ,dont quite see how it will work do to the driveshaft diameters are different and splines as V-6 is 8 spline and 60hp is 14 spline....
