Re: 1987 force 35hp head bolts torque

I have a table listing torque values, and it pegs the 35 hp at 190 inch-pounds (15.8 ft.lb.). The surface of the head that contacts the head gasket should not have any appreciable warpage. I have read that 0.012" is the maximum allowed. Use a feeler gauge with the mating surface of the head down on a surface table, or a pane of glass will do in a pinch. Minor warpage may be removed by lapping the head over emery cloth or wet/dry sand paper on a known flat surface. Don't try to take off too much (0.010" max).

Torquing head bolts starts with the middle bolts and spiraling outward. Always do at least a two step torquing process or even better a three step process. Here's a pic from a bigger motor but the process is basically the same.
