Hi all
I'm new to this boating stuff. I purchased a 73 sea ray from my brother. It has a 351W mated to a mercruiser 888 outdrive. I was just wondering if the boat has to be in forward for the pump to actually pull water into the engine. Curently when I put muffs on or put outdrive in 55 gal drum it dosnt pull any water into engine. (In neutral) My brother stated he had the same problem but when he's out on the water no problems. So I'm just confused on weather or not I have a problem or just not testing it correctly. I just dont want to get out in the water and overheat.
