I have a seasprite early 80's maybe late 70s 17' open bow that was given to me and now the hydrualic trim pump went bad when i was loading it onto the trailer...i know it went bad because i took it to a friends marina..I dont want to spend the money on a new pump b/c all you need to raise your motor for is getting on and off the trailer..I don't plan on going into shallow water at all..It has the 4cyc mercruiser engine and i had to take the bolt that holds the hydrualic shafts to the motor and then raise it by hand and ratchet strap it up..My question is can i bleed the hydraulic fluid out of those shafts so i dont have to take bolt out everytime or will that cause the motor to kick up when in reverse bc it needs fluid pressure to stop or can i just take the shafts rate off..i dont mind raising and lowering the motor by hand and strapping it because its just a starter boat for me

Re: Trim Help

Really need some more information on exactly whats happening. May be a simple inexpensive fix. Is it making any noise at all. You got the thing free so I can't understand not wanting to fix it right. I wouldn't buy a new pump as I'm sure they aren't cheap. There's 100's of those things used on ebay. May just be a bad connection on a wire or $15 solenoid. Need to get some more opinions on it.

No you can't just remove the fluid or it will kick up as you stated.
