starter bolts

just had a new starter installed in my 1997 4.3 mercruiser alpha one . went out on the lake started great took the kids tubing good day.next day went to marina it started great went to my fishing hole fished. went to start it it ran for 20-30 seconds then quit. waited a few minutes did the same thing again. waited a few minutes wouldn't start but made a louder than usual noise.it cranked but no start.paddled back to the dock and parked it.went back 2 days later tried to start it and starter bolt sheered off. any thoughts?(sorry so lenghty)O:confused:

My first thought would be to bring it back to where you had the starter installed and have them do it over....sounds like the bolts came loose.....or they were over torqued and the bolt sheared....

New bolts are required when replacing starter, I would ask if they did that. Other then that I agree with rickryder.

Never heard of the "new bolt requirement"

There is sometimes a support bracket that often gets discarded instead of re-fitted to new sometimes slightly different starters.
