I think my 1985 4.3 cobra omc has a low idle. What is it suppose to idle at? When I start it it seems a little low,and when I but it in gear it gets kinda rough but when I give it I'll gas it's fine. It's little below 1000,maybe like 700-800 rpm, Sound right? Thanks

Re: Low idle

6-700 RPM if the idle is not smooth, you may have to look at the carb, specifically the idle circuits.

Re: Low idle

I'm very new to the in board boating thing,I've mostly been into atvs ,motorcycles and snowmobiles, so what should I do or be looking for with the idle circuits? If it helps every once in a while when I put it in gear it will die before I can get the rims up. But mostly it just gets a low rough idle but when I give it gas it clears up

Re: Low idle

if the idle is rough, you most likely have crud in the carb. you will need to rebuild the carb. make sure the idle circuits are clear.
