Can a bad voltage regulator/rectifier cause an engine to not run it's best? Force 125.

No, not usually on Force engines. Ignition system is a completely separate system from charging system. It can or will cause Tach problems though.

I second Frank A. especially if it is still the original stator.

Heres a semi-related question to Franks answer. Since the tach works off the stator, as long as the tach is working well, does that indicate the stator is still good and the charging system should be working as designed (as long as the voltage regualtor is working).

Re: quick and dirty yes/no answers!

The simple answer is yes as long as the following as also in working order:
The ckt bkr is not tripped (on some units there are two ckt bkrs one for the charging system and one for the T/T system)
The red charging wire is connected to the source side of the starter solenoid.
And finally the engine is running fine (because you said the tach is working fine).

The last condition above is the main point, because the original stator that came with this unit have three different ckts in them. One charging ckt and two power source for the CD modules. But since you mentioned the tach is working properly, and this signal is taken from the charging ckt, then it goes to say the stator is working properly. Why you might ask, because you should have not been able to say the tach is working properly had the engine not been working in the first place.
